Steve grew up in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, spending his youth playing sports, exploring the woods with his father, and visiting their cabin on Notre Dame Bay with his family.

He developed a love for drawing in elementary school and enjoyed crafting with his Mom and taking pictures. As a young adult, he gravitated towards manual work, spending time tree planting, timber cruising, working in sawmills and guiding white-water rafting trips.

Steve studied business administration at Acadia University and marine environmental technology at the Marine Institute. While in St. John's, he rekindled his passion for visual art through classes at the Anna Templeton Centre. He also took several evening art classes while living in Toronto and Calgary.

Returning to Corner Brook's Grenfell Campus in 2009, he transferred from science to the Visual Arts Program. His achievements include residencies at Bonne Bay Marine Centre, the Labrador Institute, St. Michael's Printshop and Union House Arts, as well as an art history trip at MUN's Harlow Campus in the UK.

For 15 years, he has pursued his artistic passion, focusing on plein air Impressionist-inspired oil painting while also experimenting with printmaking, sculpture and photography.

He is continually inspired and feels blessed by the beautiful coastal landscape of this part of the world. Steve also feels a deep connection here to the people, including his relatives, who worked in the woods, fished, farmed, built schooners and raised families.
